Early this fall, I had an idea: What if every vegan and vegetarian challenged two friends to eat a plant-based diet for a week? It would be a fun way to take people outside of their comfort zones and allow them to learn about and experience why people eat veg. And each participant would have their own vegetarian friend as a guide for moral support and cooking tips. I began brainstorming on how I could create a grassroots movement called Veg Week, which would be a celebration of vegan and vegetarian eating.
A few days later, I had a reality check and realized that there were probably already groups working on something like this. And so I discovered Compassion Over Killing and their annual US Veg Week. I began pro-bono consulting for the group and Yair and I spent a day volunteering at the first annual Texas VegFest last month.

Two Tins of Mac Un'Cheese Prepared By The Famous Chef And Author Isa Chandra Moskowitz (Yair Worked The Cooking Demos)
Free goodies, cooking demonstrations, live music, meditation, yummy food and interesting speakers. If you’ve ever thought about trying vegetarianism or veganism out, this is a great week to try it.
And don’t forget to check if there is a Veg Week event happening near you or see if you want to start one in your own community. Happy Veg Week 2012 everyone!

Yay, you guys are so awesome!! We do have a VegFest coming up in Mn this summer, put on by the group I volunteer with, Compassionate Action For Animals ( http://www.exploreveg.org) you’ve totally inspired me to post more about this on my blog.
Amazing. I’m so glad! Definitely keep me posted on how your VegFest goes.
Say, what if you guys go west from MN and we go north from TX, and meet up at Yellowstone this summer after the festival?
I would LOVE to meet up at Yellowstone, but that kind of road trip with a baby is not a pretty picture… won’t you guys everrrr make it to MN? Summer is definitely the time for it!
Confession: I just double-checked where MN was on the map. It’s possible we’ll make it there at some point, but it’ll be Montana this summer. They both have “MN” in them – does that count?
love this yair.. as a vegan it’s great to see such positive ideas on trying going vegetarian or vegan, even if it’s integrating it in slowly or part time (; great post!
Thanks, Tiff! Do you guys have any plans / routes for the summer?
