Our summer trip would not have been complete without a visit to Santa Fe, so on we drove through New Mexico!
Yair and I spent a couple of days exploring the city – walking through the historic downtown, hiking in a nearby preserve, making friends with street people and old-timer New Mexicans and enjoying the Thursday night outdoor concert series in the park.
We danced, played, did some acroyoga and befriended our neighbors at the concert, where Yair had a deep conversation with a woman from AA who has been sober for over ten years. (The conversation was followed by tears, which were followed by hugs.)
I treated myself to my first professional manicure and pedicure in five years and, through it, I received a fascinating look into the lives of Korean women, the dynamics of their marriages, and the responsibilities and cultural expectations placed on them by their families. (If you’re ever in Santa Fe, go find Amy from Nail Experts for great work and an education on Korean culture.)
On our last night of the road trip, Yair and I pulled off into a picnic area that we had all to ourselves, climbed atop the roof of the RV and let the Perseids mesmerize us – one shooting star at a time. It was a perfect end to a lovely – and fast paced – summer trip.
We are now back in Austin and pulling into this city really felt like coming home. Stay tuned for some interesting life updates to be posted later this week. ’Til then, here’s a short video that we took of gorgeous clear water rushing over the vibrant red rocks of Glacier National Park:
