For five days last week we had the pleasure of two friends visiting us in Eugene. Andi was a participant on the Birthright trip that we led this past winter, and we first met her boyfriend Ian at Burning Man in late August.
Andi and Ian are taking some months to explore the country by car, and in Eugene they joined us for rock climbing, volunteering, exploring town, and lots of fun hanging out over home-cooked meals. This past weekend we went together to hear author M.T. Anderson speak at the local library, check out the craft and farmer’s market, and…. spin some fire.
Fire University is a weekly event in Eugene where fire spinners of all types get together to show off their stuff and teach each other tricks. It’s pretty awesome to watch, and while we first thought that we would participate only by doing some acrobalance (a new fun thing for us), Ayo ended up fire-hooping and I spun a fire staff and fire sticks!
The night at Fire U always ends with “chaos” where everyone uses up their remaining fuel. Check it out.
And finally, a video of Jake – a Fire University pro – breathing fire. The magic (a.k.a. “overexposure of my cell phone camera”) happens around :24 if you’re seriously impatient.
