Just a few days ago, I realized another reason to travel and blog…meeting all of you!
Yair and I have only met a couple of readers over the past fifteen months who were not in our pre-OurTakeOnFreedom lives. First, we were spotted by Karlie and Steve at the Grand Canyon. Then soon-to-be-RVer Diane attended my Faces program in the East Bay and joined us in the RV for wonderful conversation.
On Saturday night, we had the tremendous pleasure of meeting Matt and Beans – a dynamic, warm and genuine couple in the Mission who totally blew me away with their enthusiasm and hospitality. Matt has been telling us to come to San Francisco for some time and – once we decided to listen to him – we had an e-mail from him recommending places to climb, great vegan restaurants and free passes to the JCC in San Francisco within 24 hours.
Matt invited us to swing by a birthday party at his place, a converted warehouse that is both a gorgeously-decorated home and a tricked-out personal training space (“The Lab”). Within moments of walking through the door, people were exclaiming “The RVers are here!” and “Oh, you’re the travelers!” as Matt had told everyone at the party and at the JCC about our adventures. (Instructions to the JCC Staff: “If you see a girl with a pink stripe in her hair, you gotta be really nice to her!”) Magically, I was able to soon divert the attention off of me in order to learn about the people at the party and get into some really good conversations.
Later in the evening, Yair and I got to play with the “muscle activate” equipment, Matt gifted us our own kit of stretchy exercise things (I think that they have a more formal name) for the road and kindly hosted us overnight before waking up to make breakfast in the AM, handing us goodie bags filled with snacks for the flight and driving us to the airport. Wow. I was overwhelmed and almost speechless at his generosity, and we have plans to explore San Francisco together upon our return in December.
Toward the end of the night – amidst much enthusiasm and as the great conversations continued – Matt chimed in “Oh, I’m just so excited that you’re here! I have to say it, you’re pretty much celebrities.”
Definitely a smile-inducing night. We are of course not ‘celebrities’ but it’s fun to pretend and to make new friends with vivacious readers like Matt. Their enthusiasm is contagious and the four of us never would have met if not for travel and keeping this blog, so hats off to OurTake for bringing us new friends and family on the road.
