Earlier this week, Yair and I went to a talk given by well-known meditation guru Thom Knoles. For some time, I have been thinking that meditation would be a good way to steady my super-busy and super-organized mind, and I really enjoyed my brief introduction to the practice in Los Angeles last month.
Certain elements of the talk were skepticism-inducing, but here are two thoughts that I appreciated:
- Silently ask the question “What is it like to be you? What are you experiencing?” of your partner, family and friends in order to better understand, empathize and be there for their needs.
- When you encounter someone who you dislike, recognize that – if all the life experiences that happened to them happened to you – you’d probably turn out the same way.
