We’re now in Santa Cruz, having just spent a sunny week in Los Altos Hills. Ayo spoke at a synagogue there on Friday night, and they hosted us for the week prior – with electricity! We were right near a bike path and spent a few days doing some thigh burning! We spotted a coyote at a local nature preserve, explored parts of downtown, and visited a friend and some art exhibits at the Stanford campus.
We’ve had a great time in Santa Cruz with our friend Zev who was a participant on our February Birthright trip. We’ve spent quality time catching up, exploring town, and watching surfers. Separately, Ayo and I happened upon a Burning Man wedding on a beach(!) and went for a nice jog. Earlier this afternoon Ayo and I harvested some greens from Zev’s backyard, combined our harvest with today’s farmer’s market pickings, and whipped together a tasty dinner of garlic roasted yams, beets, vegan burgers, and salad. The weather here is great, and it’s on my radar screen as a possible “spend more time” place.
We’ll soon be heading down the coast toward LA and San Diego, but until then Zev has taken off for St. Louis and left us his place, which we’re thoroughly enjoying. Off to an unlimited-water shower!
